The Ultimate PPC Management Tool
One of the biggest problems for PPC users is the time and manual labour involved in setting up campaigns with thousands of groups and keywords. Internet marketing specialists always use a PPC Management tool to save time and money.
Some are keyword Research tools, some formatters, landing page auto generators or plain and simple automation tools. When I started PPC there were practically no tools available at save a few Excel macros that would help speed up putting “quotes” and [brackets] around my keywords. Others provide miss-spellings and add suffix or prefixes to keywords in order to allow you to test beyond your imagination.
Most of these automation assistants did a specific task but none did a complete job, requiring you to use multiple tools to get your manual work done quicker. That is until a young Australian, named Jay Stockwell introduced Speed PPC to the market in 2007. It was the Swiss army knife of PPC (Pay Per Click) Management tools. From his base on the east coast of Queensland in Brisbane he and marketing partner Allen Gardyne brought a time saving ppc management tool to the market which provided the ability to input keywords, select groupings, place add copy for the ads and do it all and more in mere minutes, for work that was taking many hours to complete.
Speed PPC v4.5 as a PPC Management Tool
The three year old .Net software is Windows-based and has been updated with changes since its inception. As market needs changed it would adapt and now can be used for Google Adwords, Microsoft adCenter and Yahoo campaigns. It also integrated with a number of other newer ppc operators like 7 Search,Ask,Miva and Looksmart . The current Version 4.5 also provides supports for PPV (PayPerView) Networks like LeadImpact/Zango, AdOn and Media Traffic which have grown in the last two years.
A user can also customize the software layouts to other specific needs without new versions being released, just through configuration changes. This feature allows a great deal of flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.
I have used the Speed PPC PPC Management Tool for over 2 years and have found it a godsend. You gain great time leverage from it and it allows for rapid deployment in mere minutes. When you are planning campaigns with locations based ads, or product-based ads you will find the collection of over 400 keyword modifier lists such as state, country, city listings. This is located in the Campaign builder module and once these lists are loaded they are available for your use in any campaign. For example if you were looking to place location specific ads for” DUI attorney” in every city of a US, it would be a few keystrokes to add these modifiers.
A PPC Management Tool for Speed and Conversion
Speed PPCV4.5 comes in 4 basic parts. The Campaign Builder is the core which allows you to import keywords,ad groups,ad copy, bid pricing and the url’s both display and actual url combination. It allows for the use of dynamic keywords, based on a seed keyword and a variety of expansion keywords. The second part are Landing Page Templates for your offers that allow for Dynamic Text Insertions which will provide the user what they are looking for, improve your quality score and conversion results. The third part is Affiliate Data Feed Software which allows you to create a dynamic user experience through the use of affiliate supplied database files. With the aid of this software, you’ll be able to use data directly from your affiliate datafeed files to build specific campaigns and create matching landing pages. A fourth module gives you a WordPress Dynamic Keyword Insertion Tool and Landing Page Creator, through PHP, which allows you to use datafeeds on a WordPress blog platform with similar ease. All help lower your bid prices and improve your quality score.

Keyword Research is your best SEO tool
Keyword Research is the basis for a good foundation in both SEO and PPC Management. There is much written on techniques but I would like to deal with some ideas for you that are easily done and will improve your results.
Keyword Research Tips for SEO & PPC
- Use the free keyword research tools like Google’s free Keyword Tool. Other tools include WordTracker. Google;s Search based Keyword Research tool, Wordstream .
- Use the Google Wonder Wheel to get derivatives and variations on that keyword tool.
- Look at your own keywords and type your competitors name(s) into the tool also. Think laterally and find long-tailed keywords. Start with a large list and pare it down.
- Ask this question. If your ideal customer was searching for your product or service what might they search under?
- A useful tool is Google Suggest. When you type your keyword into the seach box it will also give you a list of other keywords that you can use in your keyword research.
Paid Keyword Research Tools
- You can also use paid tools for Keyword Research if you wish. I use several well-tested tools. Market Samurai and Keyword Elite 2.0

Remember also doing your research you will also find negative keywords that you can deploy in your PPC campaigns to avoid wasting resources and ad spend. If you are searching for more on this topic I found Lisa Barone’s article at Search Engine Guide on Keyword Research very helpful.

Direct mail is an established and effective marketing tool.
Marketers use a number of tools for marketing communications and the one most widely used over the last few decades is direct mail. By direct mail I mean writing a letter to your customer or prospect to let them know about your product or service and presenting them with an offer.
In order to do this you can use your own mailing list that you have compiled or buy or rent a list via a list broker or information supplier. You then have your lettershop or data service provider personalize the letter you are sending and print and stuff and mail to your prospects. You can use First Class postage or Standard mail in the US or First Class and Addressed Lettermail in Canada.
The preparation of your mail can bring you savings and it may be wise to use a service that is familiar with all the ins and outs of the postal service regulations. If you prepare your mail and have it delivered to the post office in bins that are sorted down to the route code you can achieve a lower cost. It is wise to contact your local postmaster or visit the website of the USPS or Canada Post for more definitive details.
One thing you may want to be sure of is to have your list sanitized first. What do I mean sanitized. Sanitizing makes sure all the data is accurate and in the right format for the postal system. It can also verify your postal coding against the post office files. There are a list of approved vendors in both countries that do sanitization or the industry term list hygiene, and the list is posted on the post office websites.
By running your list through an approved postal service licencee you can be assured that the person whose address you will put on the envelope is checked against the National Change of Address Database. This service will provide you with the new address and postal code via an automatic link with the post office that the file is checked against. You are not guaranteed of any address veracity only if there has been a move where the postal system has been notified.
By making sure your list has been pre-checked before your rent it you can avoid this process but if you are working from an internal list it is a very useful process to employ. By doing it you ensure your offer gets to the right person at the right address. With the move rate hovering about 12% this check can help you save on postage as well as actual letter production.

Landing Page Optimization Matters
Its Canada Day here, the celebration of 143 years of Canada’s existence and we celebrated it in the national capital, Ottawa with a visit from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She reminded us that she has been on the throne for a great deal of the time, saluted us a mature nation, and lauded us on our Gold Medal Hockey win at the Vancouver Olympics.
But what does that have to do with Landing Page Optimization. Well it goes like this. Vancouver is the home town of startup Unbounce, which specializes in Landing Page Creation. The Unbounce folks tell us “that Unbounce is a self-serve hosted service that provides marketers doing paid search, banner ads, email or social media marketing, the easiest way to create, publish & test promotion specific landing pages without the need for IT or developers.”
Imagine if we could do Landing Page Optimization without having to have developers or webmasters create websites for us before we were aware if the product or service that we wanted to create was going to have a steady customer base. We could bring new ideas to the marketplace much quicker and test various ideas without having to build out full websites. It could also be used to create landing pages for high converting CPA offers that you may have on another site.
Landing Page Optimization
allows you to use and adapt a landing page template which permits you to put up a landing page built on industry best practices. This allow you to initiate a new marketing campaign in minutes, optimized by experts for conversion with absolutely no knowledge of HTML or web design. Grab the logo from your website, insert a product photo, write some sales copy that matches your PPC ads ,if you are using them, and you can be up and running with a minimum of hassle and time. It is like creating a Powerpoint presentation.
Landing Page Optimization Templates
have been designed with conversion in mind using intelligent Call to Action (CTA) placement, bullet lists, video widgets and simple lead capture forms. They just announced an integration with Mail Chimp so you could have auotresponder and landing page done free or use one of their varied monthly plans. MailChimp also offers a free account.
The concept of using a landing page which is optimized for just one thing will improve results compared to using your index page, which has many other distractions on it.
I recommend you also visit Anne Holland‘s WhichTestWon site for a comment on optin box placement. Anne also has a number of results of tests that were done that you can find on Which Test Won. She is a recognized expert at marketing and shares videos, pdf files and pats test results to help you improve your results. A lot of her material is created for corporate and enterprise markets but it is very instructive.
Vancouver is also the home town of Wider Funnel a leader in Marketing Optimisation. Raquel Hirsch and Chris Goward author their blog which also has a lot of useful information on Landing Page Optimization.
