The Philadelphia Flyers have placed defenceman Tony DeAngelo on unconditional waivers, the club announced Friday.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Philadelphia intends to buy out DeAngelo’s contract if he clears waivers, which will make him a free agent.
DeAngelo spent one season with the Flyers, recording 42 points (11 goals and 31 assists) in 70 games. The 27-year-old was signed by Philadelphia during last year’s off-season to a two-year deal, which is scheduled to carry a cap hit of $5 million for the 2023-24 season.
The Flyers had acquired DeAngelo from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for their fourth round pick in 2022, third round pick in 2023, and a second round pick in 2024.
Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round (19th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, DeAngelo has accumulated 199 points over 340 career games split between the Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers, Hurricanes, and Flyers.
