My Toronto Gen Y friend Will Pate, co host with AmberMac of the award-winning videopodcast, Command N did an interview with Steve Paikin on the TVO Ontario television show, The Agenda with Steve Paikin.

Will posted it on his blog and I think the interview on Google and SEO was one of the best layman’s discussion of the topic I have seen and it is well worth viewing

Google And Apple Fighting For Mobile Searching Supremacy

0
Buffer

When it comes to the internet, there is nobody bigger then Google in terms of searching, tools, advertising, just about everything. While Google is already the dominant search engine for individuals searching from home, they are now in the process of trying to become the dominant search engine for mobile searching as well.

In order for Google to obtain the dominance in the mobile search engine market, as they desire, they are going to have to go up against Apple, who is already a major player in the market. Google has tried to improve their position in the mobile search marketplace by purchasing AdMob and Teracent. Google is investing a lot of money in this drive to be number one in the mobile search market, but the justification is the increased ad revenues if they are successful.

Apple is also looking to improve their position in the mobile search market. With the recent acquisition of Quattro, Apple is saying to Google that they are willing to go head to head with them to compete for the growing mobile search market. Apple has a lot of ground to make up though because of the familiarity most users have with Google.

Google’s dominance in the search engine market has forced their competition to reconsider how to compete with the search engine giant. Many competing search engines are now beginning to think outside the box when it comes to dealing with the Google issue. For example, Apple and Microsoft are now considering teaming up together, with the iPhone using Microsoft’s Bing as its primary search engine. It is unknown if these discussions will eventually lead to a collaboration by these two competitors, and even if it does lead to a collaboration, the impact it will have on Google’s market share is unknown.

And with all the hype about who will get to be the search engine for the smart phone applications, the bottom line is that although Google may want to be there, with their current strong hold on the web and with the major social media sites, even if they lose in the smart phone market they will still remain a strong and active force on the web for years to come. The little steps being taken by Microsoft and Apple, may be taking a few dollars out of their pockets, but will remain relatively insignificant to the overall market.

Sitemaps For SEO

4
Buffer

You may have read about SEO and discussed many ways to optimize your website. One of the areas that has not been explored thoroughly but is extremely beneficial in getting you the desired ranking is using sitemaps.

Wonderful SEO Tool

As the name suggests, a sitemap is the map of your site. In a single page, you show your entire site, the links, the pages, sections etc. This is a wonderful SEO tool that helps a visitor navigate your site. Having a sitemap that is constantly updated to show what is new in your site is good.

Sitemaps have the added SEO advantage that they can help you communicate with search engines. You can use the sitemap to tell the search engine which parts of your site to crawl and index.

Sitemaps have been used since a long time for web design. Now since search engines pay attention to sitemaps, they have become important for SEO. If you want to use sitemaps, you need to remember that though MSN and Yahoo! Used the standard sitemap, google uses the xml format. So if you want to use sitemaps you need one for google spiders and one for the humans. One important thing is that Google has stated that it will never penalize websites for using sitemaps.

The benefits of using a sitemap :

Easier navigation Better visibility for search engines leading for faster indexing Sitemaps help in your website optimization since broken links can be repaired and orphaned pages reached. If you update a page, or have linked a new page, site map will help you immensely both with human visitors who can immediately read your fresh content and search engine spiders that sense and index your page. Better indexing and classification of site content How to get a SEO site map This is simple. You first need to generate it and then submit it to the search engine. There are tools to help you. You could download and install a sitemap generator. Google has one. If you are a technical person or have technical help it is simple. Otherwise, you could get online sitmap generator tools, that will walk you through the process. I use Arne Brachold’s XML Sitemap Plugin for WordPress.2010 07 28 1144 300x110 Sitemaps For SEO

Once you have created or generated your SEO sitemap, you need to notify google about it. If you have a Google account, add your site to the Google Sitemap account. If you do not have a google account, you need to get one. Google then verifies you as the legitimate owner of your site and this adds to your indexing.

This SEO XML plugin generates a XML-Sitemap compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog. This format is supported by Ask.com, Google, YAHOO and MSN Search.

More information about what XML-Sitemaps are and how they can help you to get indexed by the major search engines can be found at Sitemaps.org and the searchenginewatch blog.

If you have questions about XML-Sitemaps or run into problems, have a look at my Sitemaps FAQ.

As of now, Yahoo! and MSN do not support XML sitemaps, but knowing the popularity of Google search engine it is expected that they will soon support this format. Yahoo does offer webmasters a way to submit a text file of urls, which may be considered a basic version site map. MSN does not. However, this is a powerful tool and since Google does dominate the search engine niche, both of these search engines will soon start supporting this SEO tool.

So get yourself a SEO sitemap

to optimize your website both for your visitors and for the search engines. It is great SEO.

Driving More Traffic to Your Clickbank Promotion – Pay Per Click or SEO?

0
Buffer
by Kent Simpson

Pay per click and search engine optimization are two different categories falling into the huge topic of traffic generation. For your traffic generation campaign, you may choose to use them together or they can work separately.

Many marketers pay for traffic by way of pay per click. Others achieve natural listings in the search engines, often called “organic” traffic. Most of them do one or the other.

By optimizing your website you can get in the natural listings. There are various things you can do on the site itself to help the search engines determine what your site is about. You can also target desired search terms to increase your chances of ranking for these terms in the search engines. You’ll need to understand how to do keyword research, and how to write search engine optimized articles in order to take advantage of SEO. It is also important to gain back links to your website so you will rank more highly.

Using pay per click, you will be paying for advertising your website. This involves writing a small text ad. When someone clicks on your ad they are directed to your website and you pay a certain amount for that click. The amount you pay depends on the niche you are targeting and your quality score. You will need to have a high quality landing page or website to achieve a good quality score. Many people favor pay per click because they feel it gives them more control. Plus, you can easily achieve top rankings if you have a good quality score and are willing to pay.

When you combine both the natural listings and paid listings methods, it can be even more powerful. You just need to decide which is right for you. If you have more time than money, then the natural listings is the way to go. If you have some money to invest in advertising, then pay per click traffic is certainly worth a try. At some point you may want to utilize both methods.

Pay per click and search engine optimization can be great ways to get more traffic to your ClickBank offers. Once you have more traffic, you’ll likely make more sales than ever before. Educate yourself on this as much as possible so you can put these steps into action to get massive amounts of traffic to your ClickBank promotions.

Are You Making The Most Out Of Online Web Traffic From Other Search Engines?

0
Buffer
by Tim Buchalka

One of the things I see lots of Internet Marketers doing is putting their full focus on Google and their search engine rankings, to the exclusion of all other search engines.

Now in your quest for more google web traffic, I am going to suggest you should broaden your horizons and look at other traffic sources.

At first glance this makes sense because Google do have by far the largest market share i.e. more people use Google for finding what they want on the Internet than any other search engine.

However because more people use it, more advertisers are drawn to it and advertise with Google, so this often brings more competition, and more cost to advertise.

Have you ever considered focusing on some of the less prominent search engine? Or at least putting some focus on them?

Yahoo and MSN are two examples of search engines that still get a considerable number of people using them (obviously not to the level Google does) however, it some cases I have researched there is little and if your really lucky no competition for paid advertising with these search engines in particular niches.

That’s right, it is possible to be the only paid advertiser for a given niche. Of course this can change at any time, and people will get savvier about this as the word gets around.

Imagine if you can get your website listed prominently in these search engines result pages, but also advertising your website using their paid advertising!

Now you will obviously want to ensure you’re also using Google, and focusing on getting good rankings in their search engines results, but don’t ignore these other search engines.

One thing I tell people is to try and bring in as much traffic as you can from as many sources as possible.

I mean would you be happy with 1000 visitors to a day when it quite possibly to increase this by 100% or more by using some of the other traffic sources outlined on this website?

You want as many visitors as possible, don’t you. Sure you want them to be targeted and qualified visitors, and not just random people surfing by (unless you have a fantastic product that everyone in the world would want). If you have such a product let me know, I’d probably want to invest in your company!.

It only takes a little vision to stretch your horizons. I tell people to spend some time looking at the larger picture and working out where you want your website to be. Always focus on what your site is or looks like from a visitor’s perspective. Great content that is relevant to the visitor will push up sales in no time at all!

Make sure you look into other search engines, there could be a gold nugget just waiting for you to come along and mine!
